Babies with autism may exhibit signs of over passivity where they do not move, cry or even have the slightest interest in their surroundings. Even more is that they are totally comfortable doing this and they show little or no signs of hunger and distress just to name a few. During the first few months after birth, they tend to sleep throughout the night, an abnormality in children at that age.

While it may be normal for kids with autism to show development of the motor reflexes, it is also possible that they may show slow motor development. This is caused by low muscle tension, otherwise known as hypotonus, a condition also associated with autism. This is symptom is however not conclusive and cannot be used to diagnose autism.
